Background
Baoerhan Stupa is located in Yuquan Park of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, about 300 meters to the west of South Teahouse (corner of Erdos Street and Tai Nan Street), opposite the Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) Temple.
"Baoerhan" in Mongolian means "Buddha". So "Baoerhan Stupa" means the "Buddda's Stupa".
Baoerhan Stupa began construction on May 26, 2006; its occupancy capacity is 6561 square meter and its height is 81.6 meter. It has become an important scenic attraction in Hohhot. Local Yuquan government spearheaded the construction, with funding from private donations. Hundreds of lay volunteers assisted in completing the post-construction decorative works. Longduo Denzen Lama presided over locating the site, designing and construction of the stupa, and hosted the opening ceremony. He also assigned a number of Tibetan Monks to participate in the construction effort as well.
At 9 o'clock on the February 14, 2008, the opening ceremony was held to celebrate completion of Baoerhan Stupa. Longduo Denzen Lama (the Vice President of Five-Science Buddhist Institute of Lairong, Sichuan Province) donated his offerings that had been treasured for many years to Baoerhan Stupa, including the rare sacred Buddha’s relics (brain, bone and blood relics), the relics of the Venerable Ananda, Venerable Upali Thera, Venerable Sariputta, Venerable Sivali Thera and the other great Arhats. In addition, he donated many Buddhism books and Buddha statues that since became a part of a treasure trove at the Baoerhan Stupa. |
